You can apply to amend your licence or permit. Fees apply.
To update or change details on a registration, you need to apply for a new registration.
We can also initiate an amendment to your permission under Section 58 of the Environment Protection Act 2017. For example, we can:
- fix an administrative or clerical error (this is called an administrative amendment)
- revoke, amend or impose conditions on a licence or permit
- modify a standard condition for a registration
- make an amendment that's required under the regulations.
If we amend your permission, we send you a notice of amendment. We may discuss a proposed amendment with you before we make it.
If you do not agree with the amendment, you can appeal amendments made under Section 58(1)(c). You cannot appeal amendments made under Section 58(1)(a), (b) and (d).
No fee applies for an amendment that we initiate.
Amend a licence or permit
You can apply to add, remove or amend terms or conditions of your permission – for example:
- licence or permit conditions
- landfill cells
- treatment codes
- waste codes
- waste discharge tables.
You can also apply to amend your details – such as your company name, or update your activity plans.
How to apply

You need to provide information when you apply for an amendment. The type and amount of information depends on the amendment you're applying for.
If you are applying to amend the terms and conditions of a permission, you must provide information and evidence in your application on how you'll:
- meet your obligations under the general environmental duty and any other relevant duties
- assess and mitigate your risk and your impact on human health and the environment
- meet any activity specific application requirements
- address the 11 principles of environment protection
- address the climate change and biodiversity requirements
- use the best available and suitable techniques and technologies, so far as is reasonably practicable
- engage with the community and any other interested parties where required
- be consistent with the requirements of the Environment Protection Act 2017 and the Environment Protection Regulations 2021.
How long it takes
We assess licence amendment applications within 42 business days of receiving them.
We assess permit amendment applications within 15 business days of receiving them.

Application fee
The fee for your application depends on your licence or permit type and the type of amendment. To learn more about our fees and how they're calculated, visit Fees.
Update your registration
If you need to update your details or change any waste codes on your registration, you must apply for a new registration. You need to provide the new information, including any new waste codes. Fees may apply.
Revoke the old registration
When your new registration is issued, you must request to revoke your old registration. To do this, you must provide:
- the reason why you want it revoked
- your registration ID.
Submit your request to permissions@epa.vic.gov.au.
We assess your request under Section 59(9) of the Act.
