You must make sure your asbestos waste is going to a place authorised to receive it.
Some landfills are authorised to receive asbestos waste from households, business and industry, or both. Some sites with an A01 or A22 permission are also authorised to receive asbestos waste.
Contact the landfill before you transport and deliver your household asbestos because:
- landfills authorised to receive asbestos can still choose not to accept it
- you may have to book a time ahead so that staff are ready to store your asbestos waste safely.

Disposal of asbestos waste from business and industry
The duty of persons involved in transporting industrial waste applies to asbestos waste from business or industry.
You must make sure the asbestos waste is going to a landfill that is authorised to receive commercial asbestos waste before you allow the waste to be transported.
Use a licensed asbestos removalist. Make sure they:
- have a permission to transport reportable priority waste
- use Waste Tracker
- will supply you with a Waste Tracker waste record for the movement of the asbestos waste to a place authorised to receive it (lawful place).

Disposing of asbestos waste from households
Your asbestos waste can go to a landfill authorised to receive domestic asbestos if:
- the asbestos is from your household
- you are transporting it in your own vehicle.
If you meet these criteria:
- you do not have to use Waste Tracker
- you do not need a permission to transport the asbestos waste.

Be aware that domestic asbestos landfills will only accept a small amount of household asbestos waste.
Use a licensed asbestos removalist to dispose of your asbestos waste if:
- you have a large amount
- you're not confident disposing of it yourself.
