You must make sure your asbestos waste is going to a place authorised to receive it.
Not all landfills are authorised to receive asbestos waste. We have a register of landfills in Victoria that can legally accept asbestos.
Contact the landfill before you transport and deliver your household asbestos. This is because:
- landfills authorised to receive asbestos can still choose not to accept it
- you may have to book a time ahead so that staff are ready to store your asbestos waste safely.

Disposal of asbestos waste from business and industry
The duty of persons involved in transporting industrial waste applies to asbestos waste generated from:
- commercial
- industrial
- trade activities.
You must make sure the asbestos waste is going to a landfill that is authorised to receive industrial asbestos waste before you allow the waste to be transported.

Homeowner disposal of asbestos
Your asbestos waste must go to a landfill authorised to receive domestic asbestos if:
- the asbestos is from your household
- you are transporting it in your own vehicle.
If you meet the above criteria:
- you do not have to use Waste Tracker
- you do not need a permission to transport the asbestos waste.

Be aware that domestic asbestos landfills will only accept a small amount of household asbestos waste. Read Remove household asbestos for information about what is considered a ‘small amount’.
