Restorative justice is a process where those responsible for an offence must contribute to resolving the harm caused.
Restorative Project Orders
Projects to restore or enhance the environment are an option available to courts when determining a legal outcome. We work with communities to develop, select and administer these projects.
A person who has committed an offence under the Environment Protection Act 2017 may be ordered by the Court to:
- conduct a restorative project
- fund a person or community organisation to deliver a restorative project
- pay funds to our Restorative Project Account.
A restorative project order is at the discretion of the Court. The Court also determines the value of the project or funding.
Our Environmental Justice Policy sets out our commitments to restorative justice.
