Risk management and monitoring program

Learn about developing your risk management and monitoring program.

Our licences have conditions. Some conditions require you to prepare and maintain a risk management and monitoring program (RMMP). For operating licences, this is condition OL_G5.

An RMMP is a formal and documented risk management process that describes how you meet:

Your RMMP should be:

  • readily available
  • suitable for use
  • held in a secure place (with copies readily accessible)
  • protected from inadvertent or malicious alteration or destruction
  • available to all personnel
  • regularly revised
  • supplied to us when requested
  • retained for a minimum of 5 years.

What your RMMP contains

The complexity of your RMMP depends on the complexity of your operations and the nature of your risks.

Your RMMP may include but is not limited to:

  • consideration of your:
    • facility
    • operations
    • activities that may pose a risk of harm to human health and the environment
    • roles and responsibilities
  • description of your environmental setting
  • who the internal and external parties interested in your operations are and their expectations
  • a conceptual site model, where needed
  • a full risk assessment
  • environmental performance and evaluation planning that includes:
    • objectives
    • indicators
    • monitoring
    • a performance evaluation and review
  • documentation of your procedures for responding to incidents and emergencies.
