Site management orders

Learn about site management orders and how to review, amend or revoke one.

We issue site management orders to place long-term controls on sites that:

  • are contaminated
  • have an ongoing risk to human health and the environment.

We may issue the order to the owner or occupier of a site.

We publish current orders on our Public register.

Contact us if you cannot meet any of the requirements of your order.

Site management order requirements

Site management orders can require you to:

  • get a financial assurance
  • maintain any environmental controls – for example, instal or maintain infrastructure
  • monitor site contamination
  • report to us regularly.

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal can review site management orders. We can also amend or revoke a site management order.

Amend or revoke a site management order

You can apply to us to have your site management order amended or revoked if you believe that:

There is a fee to apply. An extra fee applies if it takes more than 14.9 hours to assess your application.
