EPA Victoria has lifted a prohibition notice that has been in place at SBI landfill since 10 August, following a site inspection  by EPA officers on Thursday 25 August 2022.

The notice was put in place by EPA to ensure SBI took all required actions to deal with odours from the site impacting on nearby residents.

The prohibition notice has been removed because EPA has determined immediate risks have been addressed.  It means that SBI can accept solid inert waste at the landfill site as of 8am, Friday 26 August.

The decision follows recent EPA inspections that determined required actions to manage odours at the site had been implemented by the company, including the installation of gas wells to capture odour.  In making the decision, EPA also assessed air monitoring data, odour surveillance results and community odour reports – which have decreased and there have been no reports in recent days.

Regular inspections at the site will continue and EPA will take further regulatory action as required to protect the environment and local communities from impacts at the site.

EPA will continue to liaise closely with community on this important issue, including a local meeting on Tuesday night. Details can be found at SBI landfill page on EPA website.
