EPA Victoria has fined recycling company Tyre Crumb (Vic) Pty Ltd $9,246 for failing to keep adequate records of waste storage and movement at its Broadmeadows premises.

The fine comes after EPA officers visited the site on 21 March 2023 to assess actions taken to reduce the risk of fire from the company’s processing and stockpiling of Combustible Recyclable Waste Materials (CRWM).

EPA North Metropolitan Regional Manager Jeremy Settle says there are good environmental and safety reasons for proper record keeping at a site like Tyre Crumb’s Maygar Boulevard premises.

“It’s a condition of their EPA permission that all incoming and outgoing waste movements and onsite stockpile sizes are recorded, and kept for at least five years,” Mr Settle said.

More than once, EPA had instructed the company to get its record keeping in order, but when EPA officers checked again, the problem was still there.”

Under the Environment Protection Act 2017 and the Infringements Act 2006, the operator has the right to have the infringement notice reviewed or be considered by a court.
