State Environment Protection Policy (Waters)

There is one state environment protection policy (SEPP) about water.

SEPP (Waters) provides a framework for the protection and management of water quality in Victoria, covering surface waters, estuarine and marine waters and groundwaters across the state.

SEPP (Waters) replaces the State Environment Protection Policy (Waters of Victoria), its regional Schedules, and the State Environment Protection Policy (Groundwaters of Victoria).

Pollution of Waters by Oils and Noxious Substances Act 1986

The purpose of the Pollution of Waters by Oils and Noxious Substances Act 1986 (POWBONS) is to protect the sea and other waters from pollution by oil and noxious substances.

Pollution of Waters by Oils and Noxious Substances Regulations 2012

The Pollution of Waters by Oil and Noxious Substances Regulations 2012 support the Pollution of Waters by Oil and Noxious Substances Act 1986. The Regulations set out to whom, how and within what time frame a discharge or probable discharge of oil or an oily mixture must be notified and reported. They prescribe the form of a ship’s oil record book, the circumstances in which entries must be made in an oil record and other matters relating to the retention of oil record books.
