EPA has a regulatory role in part of the Golden Beach gas project.

The proposed gas compressor station is scheduled under the Environment Protection (Scheduled Premises) Regulations 2017. This means that the project needs a works approval to install the equipment and an EPA licence to operate it.

We don't have a role in approving:

  • the pipeline
  • the well drilling
  • other infrastructure and site facilities.

The Environment Effects Statement process has considered these parts of the project.

EPA issued a works approval for the gas compressor station

We received a works approval application on 18 August 2020, and accepted it on 8 September 2020. EPA assessed the works approval application for potential impacts including:

  • air and noise emissions
  • energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions
  • land and groundwater management.

We have issued a works approval, subject to conditions. The full works approval assessment report is available.

On 6 April 2021, the Minister for Planning completed his assessment under the Environment Effects Act 1978.
